Summary:
The Point of Care Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the point of care testing (POCT) program within and across multiple Onvida Health laboratories and clinic locations. This role ensures that all POCT activities comply with regulatory standards and that staff are adequately trained and competent in performing these tests. The supervisor will work closely with clinical staff, laboratory personnel, and management to maintain high-quality patient care and accurate test results.
Responsibilities:
Program Management: Develop, implement, and manage the POCT program, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Prepare SOP, verification plans, and verification assessments according to laboratory policy and CLSI standards.
Training and Competency: Provide training and ongoing competency assessments for clinical staff performing POCT, both waived and moderately complex.
Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the quality and accuracy of POCT results, implementing corrective actions as necessary. Organize and prepare monthly QA reports and attend Leadership meetings for QA review.
Equipment Management: Oversee the purchase, inventory, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of POCT equipment.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of POCT activities, including test results, quality control data, and staff training and competencies.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with laboratory personnel, clinical staff, and management to ensure seamless integration of POCT into patient care. Participate in organizational committee meetings such as Practice Development, Diabetes Management, etc. Participate as the subject matter expert for POC in regards to onboarding new clinics and new POC devices.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on regulatory changes and ensure the POCT program adheres to all relevant guidelines and standards. Ensure CAP checklists and self-inspections are performed timely and participate in off-site inspections of other facilities when requested.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science required.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting. At least 1 year of experience in POCT is preferred as well.
- Valid/Current Driver's License which meets requirements of YRMC fleet safety program.
