Summary:

The Registered nurse provides important care coordination and compassionate patient management for the acutely or chronically ill patient with dialysis requirements. The Registered Nurse is responsible for astute physical assessment and appropriate intervention according to best nursing practice standards. In this role, the Registered Nurses are expected to have a baseline understanding of the mechanics of dialysis to include all modalities, clinical indicators of renal failure, psychosocial needs of a patient with renal failure and dialysis emergency preparedness.


Responsibilities:

Interdepartmental collaboration

Review Physician orders for Hemodialysis subject to change based on the pre-assessment of the patient to include vital signs, patient’s vascular access, pertinent laboratory results, and patient’s overall clinical picture.

Promptly communicate with physician regarding concerns of patient safety.

Prepare and test machine prior to patient connection, ensuring all alarms are appropriately addressed and machine is safe to use based on quality prerequisites outlined in facility policy, to include daily, weekly, monthly maintenance of machines.

Using aseptic technique to oversee/perform vascular access to include central access or cannulation.

Continuous monitoring of vital signs during treatment keeping open conversation with Nephrologist based on patient’s level of tolerance or other associated symptoms or interventions.

Swiftly respond to emergencies using appropriate action within scope and notification pathways established by the facility.

Review and record patient’s tolerance to procedure, any interventions utilized during procedure, and effectiveness of treatment in appropriate location in EMR.

Contribute to the continuity of patient and family education and support: to include best practice recommendations for care outside of the hospital.

Other duties as assigned. 


Minimum Requirements:

  •  Associates Degree
  • AZ RN License
  • BLS (AHA)
