Summary:
The Epic IT Quality and Testing Manager is responsible for leading the quality assurance (QA), testing, and validation processes across Epic and related clinical and business applications. This role ensures that all Epic implementations, upgrades, integrations, and optimization projects meet organizational quality standards, function as designed, and support safe and efficient clinical and operational workflows. The manager defines testing methodologies, manages regression and user acceptance testing (UAT), and collaborates with application, infrastructure, and project teams to maintain high-quality system performance and user satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management: Partner with Epic application analysts responsible for Epic application testing across multiple modules (clinical, access, and revenue). Establish clear testing standards, policies, and procedures aligned with IT governance and change management frameworks. Foster a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement within the QA organization.
Testing Strategy & Execution: Develop and maintain a comprehensive testing strategy for Epic applications, including unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing. Coordinate testing cycles for Epic upgrades, releases, and new implementations. Ensure test plans, scripts, and results are documented and traceable to business and technical requirements. Partner with Epic application teams to identify test scenarios, manage environments, and validate system functionality. Oversee test data management and environment readiness to ensure accurate and efficient testing cycles.
Quality Assurance & Governance: Define and enforce quality metrics, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms for Epic system testing and performance. Collaborate with Project Management and Application teams to integrate QA activities into project life cycles. Ensure QA processes adhere to HIPAA, patient safety, and internal compliance standards. Monitor defects, track resolutions, and facilitate root cause analyses to prevent recurrence. Promote best practices in testing automation, documentation, and validation.
Collaboration & Communication: Serve as a liaison between IT, clinical, revenue cycle, and operational stakeholders to ensure effective testing coordination and communication. Support user acceptance testing (UAT) coordination, including communication with business owners, super users, and clinical leadership. Collaborate with Epic representatives and external vendors to troubleshoot issues and ensure quality standards are met. Provide regular QA reports, testing summaries, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve QA efficiency through automation tools, analytics, and process redesign. Stay current with Epic release notes, testing methodologies, and industry QA best practices. Evaluate and implement automated testing tools compatible with Epic and integrated systems. Lead initiatives to mature QA processes, standardize test management, and enhance quality visibility across the IT organization.
