Mid = $107,260.19
Max = $132,012.54
Summary:
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Director is responsible for providing strategic, mission-driven leadership to Onvida Health programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals related to healthcare workforce development, health equity, and community health improvement. This role involves directing operations, supervising staff, building and sustaining collaborative partnerships, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and securing ongoing funding through grants and other sources. The Director serves as the primary representative of the program and supports initiatives to strengthen healthcare education and access in underserved communities.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight Provide visionary leadership and mission alignment across all AHEC activities. Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of AHEC programs and initiatives, including pipeline programs, continuing education, and community outreach. Oversee the development and execution of annual strategic plans, communication strategies, budgets, policies, and procedures. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through strategic planning and outcomes data collection.
Operations & Fiscal Management Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient and effective administration of services. Approve and monitor purchases, grants, and expenditures in line with established budgets. Ensure all fiscal operations comply with internal controls and reporting requirements. Maintain responsibility for human resource operations including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and staff development.
External Relations & Representation Act as the primary liaison with federal, state, and local agencies, community partners, universities, and professional organizations (e.g., National AHEC Organization, state AHEC offices, academic institutions, rural health associations).Build partnerships with academic health professions programs, healthcare systems, and community-based organizations to expand educational and workforce initiatives. Represent at conferences, advisory boards, and regional or national meetings.
Grant Development & Management Research, develop, and submit grant proposals, in collaboration with grant writer, to secure funding for new and continuing initiatives. Ensure compliance with all grant deliverables and reporting timelines. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maximize funding opportunities and program sustainability.
Public Relations & Communications Collaborate with marketing/communications staff to promote AHEC programs and organizational branding. Supervise production and dissemination of program materials and outreach efforts targeting students, health professionals, and the community. Conduct public speaking engagements and presentations to raise awareness about healthcare careers and workforce needs.
Education & Training Oversee pipeline programming such as high school presentations, career exploration, and internships. Coordinate continuing education activities for healthcare professionals in collaboration with academic and clinical partners. Supervise the design and implementation of curriculum and training evaluation tools.
Compliance & Policy Oversight Ensure all operations and activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Identify and mitigate risks associated with AHEC operations and programming. Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive program, partner, and personnel information.
Other Duties as Assigned Participate in internal committees and special projects as needed. Travel to support regional program activities and attend national conferences.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of relevant experience in public health, healthcare administration, education, student services, or a related field.
OR - Master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., Public Health, Health Administration, Education, Business) and two (2) years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in grant writing and management.
- Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience developing and evaluating student programs and educational outreach.
- Knowledge of and experience in nonprofit, government, or academic environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to health equity and working with underserved populations.
