Summary:
The Clinical Professional Development Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that support student clinical placements, academic partnerships, and onboarding of new clinical team members. This role ensures a seamless transition for learners and new hires into the clinical environment, promotes professional development and practice standardization, and supports organizational readiness, competency, and compliance. The Clinical Professional Development Coordinator collaborates closely with academic institutions, clinical leaders, preceptors, and interprofessional teams to ensure high‑quality learning experiences and workforce development. The Clinical Professional Development Coordinator leads clinical professional development activities that promote lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, professional growth, and improved quality and patient care outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Serves as the primary liaison between the organization and academic institutions (nursing schools, allied health programs, residency programs, extern programs). Coordinates student clinical placements, onboarding requirements, and orientation logistics. Ensures compliance with affiliation agreements, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
Maintains accurate records of student rotations, evaluations, and preceptor assignments. Supports faculty, instructors, and clinical coaches during student rotations. Facilitates communication between academic partners and clinical departments to ensure readiness and alignment. Facilitates and maintains life support classes through the American Heart Association to meet the system needs.
Develops, coordinates, and delivers onboarding programs for new clinical team members, including nurses, techs, and support staff. Ensures onboarding content aligns with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence‑based practice. Participates in quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, patient experience, workforce engagement, and clinical outcomes. Analyzes system metrics and algins educational and onboarding practices for positive patient and team member development outcomes.
Conducts competency assessments, skills validations, and orientation check‑ins. Partners with hiring managers and preceptors to ensure individualized orientation plans. Monitors progress of new hires and escalates concerns related to competency, performance, or integration. Facilitates mentorship programs for team members. Evaluates onboarding effectiveness and recommends improvements.
Provides ongoing education, training, and competency support for clinical staff. Develops and implements educational material, job aids, and learning modules. Supports annual competencies, skills fairs, and mandatory training initiatives. Facilitates simulation, hands‑on training, and clinical skill development sessions. Promotes evidence‑based practice and support staff in accessing educational resources. Recruits, trains, and supports preceptors and clinical coaches. Provides resources and coaching to enhance preceptor effectiveness. Monitors preceptor‑new hire/student relationships and intervene when needed. Recognizes and support preceptor development and retention.
Ensures all onboarding and student documentation meets regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. Maintains accurate records of competencies, orientation completion, and student placement data. Maintains readiness and participates in audits, surveys, and accreditation activities (e.g., Magnet, DNV/Joint Commission, state/national accrediting agencies). Tracks and reports metrics related to onboarding, student placements, and educational outcomes.
Partners with Nursing Leadership, HR, Talent Acquisition, and Clinical Operations to support workforce planning. Participates in committees related to education, onboarding, and clinical excellence. Supports initiatives related to retention, engagement, and professional development.
Serves as a resource for clinical staff regarding policies, procedures, and best practices. Maintains current practice readiness skills to guide and mentor others in best practice standards. Supports professional practice models with alignment of education.

5+ years of recent clinical experience
